” Searching, intuitive, whimsical, sexy; her images, I was strangely happy to see, were invariably fresh and original, often arresting and had something – that thing – that knocked on my memories of photography from the 1980s and 1990s when the new “raw authenticity” was a quest many shooters attempted but only a handful, with the right balance of emotional and worldly intelligence, managed to achieve. ” – Janice Breen Burns, Voxfrock.com

Neil is a mixed media artist, originally from Manchester, now based in the picturesque Macedon Ranges, from where he derives so much of his inspiration. Surrounded on all sides by native bushland and outcrops of volcanic boulders, this presence of nature is evident in so much of his work. Having studied art and design from an early age, he went on to gain a BA (Hons) in Photography, and has been immersed in the photographic medium throughout his career. His work continues to explore that photographic medium past its boundaries of controversy. Creatively, his practise is about simultaneously destroying the perceived realism and truth of the photographic image and compounding it with the freedom and imagination that only freehand drawing can achieve. It is never about choosing one medium over the other, or being bound by a specific genre, for the most part neither one can exist without the other.
"I’m really beginning to understand how photography now sits within my creative vision, and the relationship it forges with other art forms. I feel finally, that I’m able to draw into the photograph, rather than onto it". He is currently working with pen and ink, camera, paint, charcoal and paper.

“With art, like music, you just love certain things. It move’s you or speaks to you. You have that passionate reaction that I can get from other peoples work. If someone gets that from my work I think that’s awesome. Its a bit of magic” “Kate Bland”
